FAIRFIELD — Braidan Welch was just three assists shy of a triple-double as the Forest Hills boys basketball team rolled to a 78-31 win over Vinalhaven on Saturday at Kennebec Valley Community College.

Welch finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Tigers (2-0). Teammates Cooper Daigle (15 points), Jaxson Desjardins (11), Blaine Nadeau (10) and Max Cuddy (10) also scored in double figures.

Charlie Swears scored 13 points for Vinalhaven (0-2).

 

WISCASSET 58, TEMPLE ACADEMY 56: The Wolverines (1-0) overcame Peyton Reckards’ 31-point, 18-rebound effort to win in overtime at the Augusta Civic Center.

Jebar Garricks led Wiscasset with 18 points, followed by Alex Richard (15) and Spoencer Pinkham (13).

Nathan Corey had 15 points and four assists for Temple Academy (0-1).

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

 

FOREST HILLS 44, VINALHAVEN 29: Janessa Moffitt scored 12 points as the Tigers (2-0) pulled away for the win at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield.

Forest Hills trailed 19-15 at the half, but outscored Vinalhaven 29-10 the rest of the way. Kelsey Rancourt dished out five assists for the Tigers.

Lydia Wentworth netted a game-high 21 points for the Vikings (0-2).

 

MADISON 52, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 33: Mackenzie Robbins scored 21 points as the Bulldogs (1-0) won their season opener in Madison.

Madison led 32-20 at the half. Brooke Brown and Madison Dow scored eight points apiece for mountain Valley (0-1).
