WATERVILLE — The Ticonic Bridge spanning the Kennebec River between Waterville and Winslow will be closed to all traffic overnight for several days this week and next.

The holiday-season closures will take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, through Thursday, Dec. 14; and Sunday, Dec. 17, through Thursday, Dec. 21, for construction activities requiring access to the entire bridge, according to Mike Rocque of Consolidated Communications.

During this time, all vehicles will be required to follow posted detour routes and message boards will be used to advise motorists. Pedestrians should also continue to use posted detour routes. Drivers are advised to drive cautiously, observe signs in the work zone and obey reduced work zone speed limits.

Many full closures of the bridge have been announced in recent months for the $52.8 million replacement project, which is expected to last until April 2025. During that time, traffic coming from Winslow has been detoured over the Carter Memorial Bridge, while traffic is typically permitted from Waterville over the bridge into Winslow.
