SCARBOROUGH — For the 12th consecutive year, Hannaford Supermarkets received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, a survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality, according to a news release from Hannaford Supermarkets.
“Hannaford is committed to creating an environment that reflects the communities we serve and where people feel welcome, supported and entirely comfortable being their authentic selves,” said Tony Giampetruzzi, head of diversity, equity and inclusion for Hannaford Supermarkets.
Hannaford was given the Equality 100 Award: Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion and is one of 545 major U.S. businesses to earn top marks this year.
The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars: Nondiscrimination policies across business entities; equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families; supporting an inclusive culture; and corporate social responsibility.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
