Matthew Wayne Galletta

MANCHESTER – Matthew Wayne Galletta, 55, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 15, 2023. He was born on July 23, 1968, a son of Luella (Craig) and James Galletta Sr.

A life worth living is one full of love, laughter, and memories- to say the life of Matthew Galletta met those standards is to put it lightly. He made everyone feel loved, seen, and cared for, and took the time to get to know the people he held close.

The landmark of his life was his marriage to Jennie Umphrey. The two first met at Caribou High School during study hall, where she would steal glances across the room, hoping to get to know him. Fortunately, a few years later they would connect at a bar, and as they say the rest is history.

The couple had two children, Quinn in 1998 and Jack in 2001. Together, the family of four created lifelong memories and countless family traditions, many of which brought them back to Caribou. Matt and his family made the five-hour caravan several times a year, and along the way, he and his friends would end up creating a “home away from home”, and always connected his family to where he came from.

Matt was incredibly involved in every aspect of his children’s lives, whether that was one of his famous on-stage performances with his daughter or spending a weekend on the sidelines watching his son play sports. This involvement stretched past his children’s time in the Maranacook school district, where he continued to be an active participant on Awesome Bear Society board, or whatever projects he could contribute to. To summarize a life in words is impossible, but to put it simply, he was truly a rare breed.

Matt was predeceased by his mother, Luella Galletta; his stepmother, Carolyn Galletta; and his sister, Dianne Dispoto.

Matt is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Jennifer Galletta; his children, Quinn Galletta and her fiancée Charles Lees, and Jack Galletta; his father, James S. Galletta Sr.; his siblings, James S. Galletta Jr. and Patricia Kinney and her husband Norman; his brother-in-law, Gregg Dispoto; his mother and father-in-law, Jane and Richard Umphrey; brother-in-law Matthew Umphrey, his wife Rachel Umphrey and their children, Garrett and Spencer; and brother-in-law Dan Umphrey.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. A celebration of life will take place on Friday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m., also at Plummer Funeral Home.
