Carroll “Herb” Marin

NORTH MONMOUTH – Carroll “Herb” Marin, 81, of North Monmouth passed away at his home on Dec. 6, 2023. Herb, the son of Ethel Marin was born on Nov. 2, 1942. He was one of eight children, was father to Michelle Marin, and like a father to his best friend and caretaker, Clint Croxford. He was affectionately known by his beloved nephews and cousins as “Herbie Derbie”.

Throughout his life, he was busy building, buying and selling homes, and fixing or modifying automobiles and motorcycles. Along with many houses, motorhomes, and Corvettes, he also owned Smithfield Auction, The Coop (a BYOB dance hall), and Herb’s Auto.

For those privileged enough to know Herb, they knew he was a Harley man and loved a good adventure. Those adventures lead him all over the U.S (with the goal of visiting all fifty states) and parts of Europe. In his travels, he attended Woodstock, met Jay Leno, and had many fun excursions with is daughter, family, and friends.

Herb was always the life of the party. He would tell people “Walk in like you own the place” and he did just that. He endured a lot in his life, and it pushed him to enjoy every moment whether it be on his bike or playing a few cutthroat games of cribbage with whoever walked through his door that day. Herb pushed everyone to be their best and was always there for anyone that needed him.

His motto… “It’s been a good ride.”

Herb was predeceased by Ethel and Allen (brother) Marin

He is survived by his daughter Michelle, of Farmington, Conn., his remaining six siblings, and Clint.

Family and close friends hosted a celebration of life in his honor… “Herbie” style.
