For its first live music offering of the year, Belfast Maskers plans to present an evening of enchanting songs and musical nostalgia as Tom DiMenna pays tribute to the legendary Gordon Lightfoot. This concert is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, on the main stage at the Basil Burwell Community Theater, at 17 Court Street in Belfast.

Gordon Lightfoot, an iconic Canadian singer-songwriter, passed away in May last year after leaving an indelible mark on the music industry with his poetic lyrics and evocative melodies. “The legend lives on” in DiMenna’s homage to Lightfoot, which promises to be a captivating journey through some of the most beloved songs in the folk, rock, and country genre. DiMenna’s heartfelt renditions will include hits like “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown,” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” along with many deeper cuts from the prolific songwriter’s catalog.

DiMenna’s vocal range and guitar style have been perfected through decades of stage performances nationally and locally. He released his debut album, “You Know Me, My Devil Says” in 2020 and his revue of Cat Stevens’ greatest hits sold out opera houses along the Maine coast in 2021. “I grew up on Cat Stevens and was doing folk rock covers at breweries to break in to the music scene in Maine,” said DiMenna. “I noticed that Gordon’s “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald“ would consistently draw folks out of their conversations and turn their heads towards me. I decided to give his whole songbook a review and found so many great songs. Really interesting and fun songs that worked with my voice nicely. Later I found out my mother had a huge crush on Lightfoot, so I thought there might be something here for me to keep exploring.”

Tickets cost $30, seating is general admission and the doors will open at 6 p.m.
