ROCKVILLE, Md. – Charles “Charlie” Forrest Treat III, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, of Rockville, Md., passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2023, following a brief illness. He was born in Bangor, Maine to the late Charles Treat, Jr. and Helen Rogers. He grew up in Randolph, Maine, where he developed lifelong passions for history, sports, and politics.

Charlie graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in History and moved to Washington DC to pursue a career in the U.S. government. He worked for the National Bureau of Standards and, later, the Department of Commerce, where he facilitated and led numerous projects related to science, technology, budget, military, and other government initiatives. After retiring from the Department of Commerce following many decades of service, Charlie, an avid baseball fan, worked part-time as an usher at the Frederick Keys minor league baseball stadium in Frederick, Maryland.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved taking road trips to Maine and numerous historical sites around the United States, as well as coaching little league baseball for his children and then, being the beloved “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren. Charlie was a passionate reader and lifelong learner who read hundreds of books per year, and enjoyed puzzle games, trivia, and sports. He had an excellent sense of humor and could make anyone laugh with his witty jokes and stories.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; his younger sister, Carolyn; his children, Heather, Lowell, Forrest, Jennifer, Matthew, and Melissa; his nephew Christopher; and his grandchildren, Ava, Kieran, Sarah, Sydney, Hannah, and Damen.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home on West Montgomery Avenue in Rockville, Md. on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
