Linda Scott Beaulieu Chandler

SKOWHEGAN – Linda Scott Beaulieu Chandler, 86, a lifelong resident of Skowhegan, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2023. She was born on Jan. 30, 1937, the daughter of Charles and Lucretia (Witham) Scott.

Some of Linda’s fondest childhood memories were times spent with loved ones at the Witham Camp in Smithfield and the Kinney Homestead in Fosterville, New Brunswick. She attended Skowhegan schools and graduated as salutatorian with the class of 1954. She was brought up in a musical family and played the piano for the SHS Chorus and Orchestra. She also played drums in the SHS Band.

She married Willard (Bim) Beaulieu of Skowhegan in 1955 and together they raised four children. She was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church. Linda was an active member of the Semper Fidelis Club for many years and served as its president in 1961. She was selected as an Outstanding Young Woman of America in 1967. Linda loved being an usher for several summers at the Lakewood Summer Theater. She also enjoyed camping with family and friends at Abnaki in East Madison. Her homemade raspberry and tourtiere pies were legendary. Linda worked for SAD 54 for 27 years. She first worked as a secretary at the Skowhegan Junior High, sometimes mentoring students and then moved on to the superintendent’s office.

Linda married Robert (Bob) Chandler in 1985 and together they enjoyed going to flea markets, book, and antique shops, as well as staying at their camp on Sebec Lake. They also enjoyed going to contra dances in Chesterville on Saturday nights where Bob played in the band.

A lifelong learner, Linda enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling. Her travels took her to many countries in Europe and to several states across the US. She continued enjoying her love of music and dance by being part of a tap dance troupe, The Showstoppers, for several years. She also loved history, reading historical novels and biographies voraciously.

Linda was predeceased by her first husband Willard Beaulieu, son William Beaulieu, her late husband Robert Chandler, and brother-in-law James Keddrell – all of Skowhegan, and her stepdaughter Rhonda Hamilton.

Linda leaves behind three daughters Michele (Ned) Johnson of Windham, Margaret (Jim) Williams of Hallowell, and Suzanne (Joe) Beaulieu Lourey of Sarasota, Fla., stepdaughter Jennifer (Steve) Chandler Bowers of Ormond Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren Jason Johnson of Mexico City, Judy Prentice of Auburn, Maine, Lisa Johnson of NYC, and Chris (Jessika) Williams of Manchester, Maine, step grandchildren Robert and Scott Hamilton; five great-grandchildren Audrianna Prentice, Sara Prentice, Michael Prentice, Dillon Williams and Mikayla Williams; two sisters Christine (Edward) Testori of Guilford, Conn., Candy Keddrell of Skowhegan; and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to extend a grateful thank you to Augusta Center Health/Rehab for their kindness and care of our mother.

A private graveside burial will take place in the spring.
