AUGUSTA – Sybil H. Huard of Augusta died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Maine General Medical Center after a brief hospitalization at the age of 94. Sybil was born June 21, 1929 and raised by Jennie (McLaughlin) Redman and Ralph Redman on School Street in Augusta where she lived her entire life.

Sybil attended schools in Augusta, graduating from Cony High School in 1948. While at Cony, Sybil played softball where she was Captain and pitcher of the State Championship team. She enjoyed her high school years having many fond memories with her friends. The Monday after high school graduation, Sybil started her career in Maine State Government where she worked until retirement in 1984 after 36 years of service.

She enjoyed playing golf at the Augusta Country Club with the same foursome for 40 years, Priscilla Redman, Joan Banks and Marion Botak. Sybil was also a member of Natanis Golf Course. She also enjoyed many years downhill skiing at Sugarloaf, gardening, going to the coast, especially Belfast and Boothbay Harbor. Sybil was a lover of cats and an avid reader often found with a pile of books from Lithgow Library.

Sybil is survived by niece Susan Redman Giroux (Tedd) and family of Augusta; nephew John Redman MD (Joan) and family of Kennett Square, Pa.; niece Jennifer Redman Lanphear (Harry) and family of Manchester, Maine; niece Jane Wood Pare and family of Augusta; niece Johnna (Jody) Wood of Cambria, Calif.; nephew Peter Wood (Donna) and family of Arab, Ala.; nephew Eric Wood (Carol) and family of Pensacola, Fla.; niece Kathy Burns Carll and family of Hallowell; nephews Peter and Rick Burns of Vassalboro.

She was predeceased by Robert ”Bob” and Priscilla Redman, Edward “Ed” and Lousie Redman, Johnna Redman Wood, Alyce Redman Burns and many nieces and nephews.

At her request there will be no service. A private burial will take place in the spring.
