FAIRFIELD — No one was injured Sunday after fire broke out at a house on Ridge Road in Fairfield.

Firefighters were called shortly before 11 a.m. to the two-story home, where they discovered a fire in the basement. They were able to bring the flames under control quickly, officials said.

“We had quite a bit of overhaul because it did extend into the bathroom on the first floor,” Chief Travis Leary of the Fairfield Fire Department said. “We had a lot of digging out to do.”

Firefighters left the scene shortly before 1 p.m.

Leary said the single-family home is reparable, with extensive repairs needed in the bathroom and basement.

Leary also said the home is not habitable because fire damaged the power lines to the structure and the electricity had to be cut, so the family is staying elsewhere.

Leary said the cause of the fire is accidental, and the family is insured.

Firefighters from Waterville, Winslow, Skowhegan and Clinton responded, while the Oakland firefighters covered the Fairfield station and responded to a call while there.

While the first snowfall of the year blanketed the area with snow, Leary said the weather only slowed the response a little because of slick roads.

Fairfield property records show the home at 280 Ridge Road belongs to Susan Snow.
