ROME – Frank Rizzo, husband of Gail Rizzo, son of Joseph and Lucille Rizzo, departed this life and returned home to heaven on Jan. 3, 2024. Frank was born on March 16, 1949, in the Bronx, New York. In his late teens Frank and his family – mother, Lucille, brother, John Rizzo, grandfather, John Casale, and aunt, Sadie Millianos – moved to Belgrade Lakes.

Frank married Gail Downing on Dec. 5, 1970, and resided in Rome, Maine. Frank, though originally from the Bronx, was a Mainer through and through. He loved the outdoors, was an avid golfer, an exceptional hunter, and from his first dog, Stubby, to his current dogs, Surrey and Siesta, Frank was an experienced dog trainer and trained all his own bird hunting dogs. He was also a skilled fly fisherman.

Frank is survived by his wife, Gail, and his sons and their wives, Eric and Laura Rizzo of Virginia, and Todd and Jill Rizzo of Connecticut. Frank, as his friends will tell you, was most proud of his five grandchildren, George, Lanyon, and Casale of Virginia, and Haley and Ryan of Connecticut, which he adored.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 12, at 3 p.m., at the Union Church of Belgrade Lakes.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested charitable donations be made to the Union Church of Belgrade Lakes or the Rome Fire and Rescue Association or Belgrade Fire and Rescue Association.
