UNITY — The Sebasticook Regional Land Trust is set to begin its 2024 Speaker Series with a talk by Thacher Carter, municipal policy associate with Maine Farmland Trust.
The talk begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Unity Community Center, 32 School St.
Protecting and stewarding farmland is critical for ensuring that Maine has the land base to grow its agricultural economy and support a robust local and regional food system. With solar development expanding across the state, strategies that balance support for solar energy production with the need to protect farmland are becoming increasingly important, according to a news release from Cheryl Daigle, the trust’s executive director.
Carter will present on “Balancing Solar Development and Farmland Protection” and lead discussion about why balanced solar siting matters and what strategies local advocates and municipal officials can explore to minimize the impacts of solar development on agricultural resources.
