Ronald Omer Gotreau

AUGUSTA – Ronald Omer Gotreau, 76, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Togus Springs following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta on Oct. 23, 1947, a son of the late Rita (Dube) and Raymond Gotreau.

Ron attended St. Augustine’s School and graduated from Cony High School In 1966. In 1968 he was drafted in the US Army, where he served in the Vietnam War.

The majority of his working career was spent as a salesman with Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. He was also employed by the City of Augusta in the maintenance department at both City Center and the Augusta Police Department. In his early retirement days, he enjoyed his time working at Regal Cinemas and driving cars for Moody’s Collision.

Ron was a faithful communicant of St. Michael’s Parish at St. Augustine Church and a lifetime member at the Calumet Club in Augusta.

Ron loved spending time playing three card poker at Oxford Casino, or hanging at the Calumet club playing cribbage or calling numbers at Bingo on Sunday and Wednesday afternoons. However, his favorite time was always spent with his family.

Ron is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeannine (Fecteau); two daughters, Andrea Dyer and husband James and Susan Fossett and husband Danny; and his only grandchild, Ryan Fossett. He is also survived by his siblings, Gerard, Lucielle (Mills) and Kenneth.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church, in Augusta on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.

The family would like to thank the staff at both the CCU at MaineGeneral Medical Center and at Togus Springs for the outstanding support that was given to care for Ron in his last few weeks.
