MADISON — A local man was arrested this week after an investigation found he sexually assaulted two victims under the age of 16, police said Friday.
Justin Daigle, 29, of Madison, is facing several charges in connection with the alleged crimes, including four counts of Class C sexual abuse of a minor, two counts of Class D unlawful sexual contact and one count of Class E indecent conduct, according to Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster. Daigle was arrested Wednesday on a warrant that police obtained following a two-month-long investigation.
The sheriff’s office patrol division first responded to a report of a sexual assault in Madison involving a person under the age of 16 on Dec. 6, Lancaster said in a statement.
Detective Jeremy Leal investigated the report and identified Daigle as a suspect and another victim under the age of 16 who he also allegedly assaulted, Lancaster said.
The alleged assaults occurred during the summer of 2023, Lancaster said.
Daigle is being held at the Somerset County Jail in East Madison on cash bail set at $25,000 with conditions that he have no contact with the alleged victims, their families or anyone under the age of 18, according to Lancaster.
Daigle was scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Friday at the Somerset County Unified Criminal Court in Skowhegan, according to Lancaster.
The most severe charges, the class C sexual abuse of a minor offenses, are punishable by up to five years in prison and $5,000 in fines, according to state law. The other charges also are punishable by jail time and fines.
