John Michael “Mike” Hahn

BRUNSWICK – Mike Hahn, 73, passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2024 at his home for the last few months, Hill House in Bath.

Mike was born June 17, 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas to John and Beverly (Miller) Hahn. His dad was a Lt. Col. in the Air Force, so Mike’s childhood was spent all around the United States, and all over the world, Japan was one of his favorite places that he lived.

Mike went to many schools but ended up at the University of Maine in Orono where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts/Speech and then a master’s degree. While there he staged and directed several plays, as well as acted in many. He was a member of the Memorial Union Activities Board as well, putting on concerts and movies.

He married Vicki Clough (Kelley) in 1976. They were married 10 years and had two children, Maegan and Nathan. After his marriage ended, he married Mardie Womeldorf, who he had met at UMO through theater. They were married 30 years, living in Brunswick the entire time.

Mike’s entire working life was in retail. He started at LaVerdiere’s Drug stores, but worked many other places such as Grossman’s, Chilton, and Goodwill. He always enjoyed movies, sports, music and stereos, technology, reading and watching TV, especially during the last few months of his life. He also loved his pets over the years and his cat is surely missing him.

Later in life both kids were diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy, and he learned that he also had the disease (which contributed to his failing health the last few months). He and the kids stayed in touch over the years, spending time together. They especially enjoyed trips to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia where Mike’s parents settled after John’s retirement as this was Beverly’s home.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, John and Beverly Hahn.

He is survived by his wife, Mardie Womeldorf of Brunswick; and his two children, Maegan Hahn Dotter and her husband Aaron of Augusta, and Nathan Hahn of Pittston; as well as his brother, David Russell “Rusty” Hahn of South Portland.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date.
