Wayne Edward Johnson

NORTH PORT, Fla. – Wayne Edward Johnson, 76, passed away on Feb. 3, 2024, in Sarasota, Fla.

He was born on June 3, 1947, in Augusta to Herbert and Mabel (Cressey) Johnson. Wayne graduated from Winthrop High School in 1965. He joined the United States Navy in 1970 and retired in 1994 as a Chief Petty Officer.

Wayne and his wife relocated to North Port, Fla. in 1994. Wayne was an avid skier and enjoyed anything outdoors. He was passionate about the Boy Scouts of America and had been involved with the organization for over 60 years. He was an Eagle Scout and received his doctorate in scouting arts in 1991. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and mentor to many.

Wayne was predeceased by his loving wife, Mathilda Johnson; his parents Hebert and Mabel Johnson; as well as his brother, Mark Johnson.

He is survived by his son, Billie Spradlin, son, Tim Bearden; as well as several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will take place on Monday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery.
