Betty L. Boothby

FARMINGTON – Betty L. Boothby, 96, a resident of Wayne, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington.

She was born June 10, 1927, in Augusta, the daughter of Herman Elias Johnson and Henrietta Dorothea McVickar Johnson. She was a graduate of Cony High School in Augusta and received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Farmington State Teachers College, class of 1949.

On July 1, 1950, at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Augusta, she married Robert Coolidge Boothby. They enjoyed 63 years together, including many years in Acton, Mass., and in Wayne, before his passing in 2014. Betty devoted her time to her family, home, and community. She was a member of the Wayne Community Church, where she had been very active in church events and volunteered at the Wayne Library for 25 years. In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing, camping, square dancing, gardening, baking, along with being an avid reader and bridge player.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Peter Boothby of Livermore, Patricia Boothby-Melchert and husband David of Mill Valley, Calif., Robert D. Boothby and wife Kathryn Davis of Rangeley, and David Boothby and wife Patrice of Nashua, NH.; 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband and her sister, Ruth Dewey.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 2, at the Wayne Community Church, 22 Old Winthrop Road, Wayne, Maine. Arrangement by FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
