FARMINGTON — A fire late Thursday destroyed a barn and damaged an attached house at 513 Holley Road.
“Our crew did a great job cutting off the fire from the house,” Fire Rescue Chief Tim “TD” Hardy said.
There were no injuries, but there was some damage to the ell that attaches the house to the barn, like a breezeway, and a portion of the kitchen was damaged, according to authorities.
The owners, Doug and Mary Dunlap, a retired professor from University at Maine at Farmington and a retired family nurse practitioner, respectively, were awakened by smoke detectors. A Farmington police officer and a firefighter were able to make sure the couple got out safely. A neighbor reported the fire at about 10:43 p.m.
About 55 firefighters responded from eight departments to help extinguish the fire, Hardy said. Assisting Farmington at the scene were departments and firefighters from Chesterville, Wilton, Jay, New Vineyard, New Sharon, Strong, Temple and Industry.

Police and NorthStar EMS ambulance also assisted at the scene.
The fire is not suspicious but it remains under investigation, Hardy said. State fire investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were on the scene last night.
The couple, who have property insurance, are both well known in the community. They stayed with a neighbor last night.
A couple of tractors were damaged and a car was damaged by heat.
