Kay Hayden

LITCHFIELD – Kay Hayden of Litchfield, passed away Feb. 22, 2024 in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones.

Kay was born March 25, 1933 to parents Kuramatsu and Shizu Omari in Kumamoto, Japan. As a child, Kay enjoyed spending time on her grandparents citrus farm and picnicking at the base of a waterfall at the families lumber yard.

As a young woman working as a seamstress in a department store, Kay met Charles Hayden, the love of her life for nearly 50 years. They married in Fukuoka, Japan and soon welcomed their first daughter.

In 1961, Kay and Charles moved to the United States where they welcomed two sons and another daughter. Charles’s career with the U.S. Air Force had the family traveling the county for many years until they settled in West Gardiner. Kay spent many years working as a seamstress for Health-Tex and Margaret Smith.

In her free time Kay loved to garden, spending lots of time in her many flower beds as well as her vegetable garden. She was a wonderful cook with many family favorites including her famous stuffing, egg rolls, gyozas and “Oba Brownies”.

Kinuyo will be sadly missed by her children, Audrey and her husband Will Adams, William Hayden and his wife Marcia, her daughter, Debra Hayden, and son, James Hayden. Kinuyo was lovingly know as Oba by her many grandchildren, Shannon Brayall, Thomas Hayden and his wife Amy, Jessie and her husband Joseph Ouellette, Carrie Jean and her husband Andrew Skelton, Derek Hayden, and Kayla Hayden; As well as many great-grandchildren, Alexis and her husband Alex Lamoreau, Trenton, Olivia, Abby, Charlie, Addison, Everly, Tucker, Lillian, Darren, Penelope, and Nolan.
