Carline May Prentiss

SKOWHEGAN – Carline May Prentiss, 77, passed away on Feb. 27, 2024, at Redington-Fairview Hospital, surrounded by family and receiving her last kiss goodnight from her loving husband Howard Prentiss. She and Howard celebrated 60 years of marriage this January, they had a lifetime of love together.

Carline was born on Jan. 16, 1947. In her younger years she worked as a waitress/bartender at the Oasis Restaurant in Madison and even owned, alongside her husband, a restaurant at the Solon Hotel. Running and operating that business was a proud time in her life.

She retired and became a stay-at-home wife and mother; however, she did not stop, she was always making dresses, gowns for proms, and all the food for various occasions and events. She was an excellent cook. Her lasagna, yeast rolls, and dough boys in the summer were family favorites. Not surprising, however, she won an award in school for cooking.

Carline had many friends and family and loved to play cards, visit, shop, take trips to her son and his wife’s camp, and spend time with their extended family. She had a great affinity for Bingo and loved her trips to lawn sales all over Maine. She was crafty and when she could, she would be found making up a centerpiece or flower arrangement and loved decorating her home. Christmas was her favorite and went all out with decorations and food and trying to find the perfect gift for everyone.

Carline survived many illnesses, including her last bout of cancer that she battled through and beat. She could not always venture out to see family and friends, but she was always reaching out on the phone to talk for hours and to catch up and make sure everyone was okay.

Carline was never far from Howard; they loved their trips around China Lake and stopping for lunch on the route. Her husband was her constant companion and caregiver, never missing the morning coffee, newspaper, and crossword. They never missed their first kiss in the morning and their hug before bed.

Carline left so many loved ones; however, she had many more waiting to welcome her home, including her daughter Julie who also left us too soon.

There will be a graveside service to be announced.
