A Garland man is being held on bail at the Somerset County Jail after he was arrested last week on charges of possessing child pornography.

Clancy Trenton Scott, 23, was arrested last week on a warrant and charged with 10 counts of possession of sexually explicit material, Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said Tuesday. The arrest was made after a monthlong investigation was initiated by a public complaint in late January regarding Scott and the possession of child pornography in St. Albans, Lancaster said.

“We arrested this guy for heinous, heinous crimes,” he said. “There was material on his phone, sexually explicit material, that was consistent with child pornography.”

Lancaster declined to say if Scott personally knew any of the victims or how he allegedly came into possession of the sexually explicit material, saying an investigation is still ongoing.

“Through a series of interviews with several individuals, including Scott, Detective (Jeremy) Leal determined there was probable cause to seek a search warrant for an electronic device owned and possessed by Scott,” Lancaster said in a news release. “Detective Leal then consulted with the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office, and it was determined that an arrest warrant should be obtained. ”

Scott was arrested in Brewer by Brewer police and booked at Penobscot County Jail, Lancaster said. He was transferred to Somerset County Jail on March 8, where he was still being held Tuesday afternoon. His bail was initially set at $20,000 before being lowered to $2,500 by a judge during a court hearing on Monday, Lancaster said.

Scott’s bail conditions prohibit him from contacting anyone under the age of 18 and owning or possessing electronic devices that can be used to access or send sexually explicit material. His next scheduled court appearance will be on May 1.
