AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center has named Olivia Johnson and Mikayla Monaghan its professionals of the month for February. This accolade acknowledges their exemplary dedication, leadership, and passion in their respective programs, according to a news release from the center.

Johnson, a junior from Richmond who attends Richmond High School, is in the Medical/Veterinarian Terminology program at CATC. Her enthusiasm for understanding the intricacies of the human body and its systems is evident in her commitment to learning. She values the camaraderie she shares with classmates who share her interests.

She emerged victorious in the local SkillsUSA Medical Terminology competition, earning her a spot in the upcoming State SkillsUSA Competition.

Her instructor, Karen Parker, praises Johnson’s determination, focus, and leadership qualities. Parker recognizes Johnson’s potential as she embarks on her journey to become a registered nurse.

Johnson plans to further her education by enrolling in the Nursing Assistant program at CATC next year.

Mikayla Monaghan, a senior from West Gardiner who attends Gardiner Area High School, is in CATC’s Nursing Assistant program. She finds fulfillment in the balance between theoretical learning and hands-on experience offered by the program. Her dedication to excellence is evident in her academic achievements and compassionate patient care.

Monaghan, who triumphed in the local SkillsUSA Basic Health Care Skills competition, is set to represent CATC at the State SkillsUSA competition in Bangor later this month.

Debra Belanger-Warnke, Monaghan’s instructor, commends her as a personable, self-directed, and energetic student highlighting her clinical skills, nursing knowledge, and positive attitude as attributes that make her a standout in her field.

In the fall, Monaghan will pursue her passion for nursing by attending Kennebec Valley Community College.
