Carolyne “Carol” Ann Starker

NORTH NEW PORTLAND – Carolyne “Carol” Ann Starker, 87, of North New Portland, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Skowhegan.

Carol was born on June 25, 1936, in Stanton Station, New Jersey. The loving daughter to Spencer and Constance (Paieda) Hanff. She received her education in New Jersey schools and graduated from Bogota High School in 1953. She held a position as an executive secretary at an office supply distributor before moving to Maine in 1976 with her husband, Russell “Russ”, and three children. In Maine, she held positions at Somerset Reporter in Skowhegan and Dirigo Dowel in New Portland.

Carol will be remembered for her fun loving spirit, finding joy in anything she did. She loved music and dancing and was always the first to hit the dance floor.

She enjoyed spending time in her big comfy chair perfecting her needlepoint and completing crosswords while sipping on her coffee. Throughout her life she took pleasure in photography and gardening. She never missed a sporting event to cheer for her children and grandchildren and continued to attend local sporting events up until a few years ago.

She was an animal lover and was referred to as the “Treat Lady” by the ones she loved. She always had a pocket of treats for her sweet fur babies.

Carol made many memories and great friends at Spring Lake, where she and her husband spent many summers at “Camp”.

Over the years, gathering at her home in North New Portland created many fond memories for her family. During drop-in visits, holiday celebrations, and Sunday dinners the house was always warm with laughter and loud voices. Those moments, together as a family, were easily some of her favorites. She loved her family fiercely.

She is survived by her husband, the love of her life, Russ, of North New Portland; her twin children, Scott Daubenberger and his wife, Jessica, of Madison and Sheri Lopez and her partner, David Sargent, of Kingfield; her sister, Helene “Mickey” Harrington, her husband, John and their three daughters, Christine, Kathleen, and Kerrie; seven grandchildren, Tracy Goodwin and her husband, Brendan, of Sanford, Patrick Daubenberger and partner, Tristi Gould, of Embden, Alex Lopez of Kingfield, Allison Lopez and partner, Chris Wilgus, of Rockland, Laura Binder and her husband, Andrew, of Albuquerque, N.M., Derek Cookson of Madison, and Sara Cookson of Madison; four great-grandchildren, Brielle and McKenna Goodwin, Emma Johnson, and Chloe Binder.
