Reid Alan Durost

AUGUSTA – Reid Alan Durost, 37, passed away at a local hospital on March 9, 2024, after a brief Illness. He was born in Presque Isle on Jan. 19, 1987, the son of Dick and Lynne (Currie) Durost.

He attended Presque Isle schools through his eighth grade year when the family moved to Hallowell, where he graduated from Hall Dale High School class of 2005. He was a three sport athlete (soccer goalie, three point basketball threat, and catcher in baseball). His senior year he became the home announcer for the Hall Dale basketball teams, establishing the springboard for one of his passions. He attended the New England School of Communications (NESCOM) on the Husson University campus where he quickly polished his skills as a sports public address announcer, and became the “Voice of the Eagles” in numerous sports.

Through his adult years he continued his announcing career working the MPA Invitational Basketball Tournament as well as Lacrosse and other state championships. In addition to his work for Husson, he also served as an announcer for several UMaine athletic events. He previously had a thriving DJ business for weddings and other events under the name DJ Reid.

Reid was known for his big heart as well as being a friend to all, particularly those who were disadvantaged. He loved family and looked forward to Currie and Durost family gatherings. He had a fondness for animals, especially his beloved rescue dog Neo. Growing up he looked up to his big brother role models Scott, Jeremy and Brad Durost. Reid had recently worked for the State of Maine Department of Transportation as a Transportation Management Specialist 1 and had found his niche in his service to the Department. In recent years he developed a renewed love for the game of soccer, traveling to North Carolina last year to watch a pro game, and planning a trip to England in the future.

He is survived by his mother, Lynne Currie-Rodrigue of Augusta, her husband Joe Rodrigue and his sons, Joe and Steve; Reid’s dad Dick Durost of Augusta, Dick’s wife Marcelle Durost; Dick’s mother Betty Durost of Mars Hill and Houlton; Lynne’s Dad Reggie Currie of Howland; Lynne’s brothers Aaron Currie and Mike Currie, and Mike’s wife Leslie; brother Scott Durost, wife Stacie and daughter Lyndsie of Bangor; brother Jeremy Durost, wife Kelly and daughters Julia and Savanah of Edinburg; brother Brad Durost, wife Maria, daughter Bella and son Brady of South Portland; and Marcelle’s daughter Ashley Marble, partner Joni Britt, daughter Brooklyn and son Bo of Louisville, Ky. Also, Dick’s triplet siblings, Jay Durost and wife Mary of Bucksport; Joy Durost Graham and her husband Bob of Naples, and Jan Durost of Mars Hill. Reid is also survived by numerous cousins. Finally, he thoroughly enjoyed being the favorite uncle to family grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his grandmother Nancy (Engstrom) Currie, and his grandfather Paul Durost.

Our family wishes to thank Dr. Tavares and the Critical Care Unit nurses and staff at MaineGeneral Hospital for their care and compassion during his brief time there. You helped make the unbearable, bearable for Reid and for all of us.
