Maine has a chance to continue progress on climate action with a new emissions standard that would clean up pollution from transportation, our most polluting sector. We’ve made great progress on climate action in recent years, but we haven’t done enough to address this major sticking point.

Climate change is here, and we have to respond to it. Recent storms have shown this in no uncertain terms. Our response to these changes should prioritize supporting impacted communities, reducing our dependence on expensive and polluting fossil fuels, and easing economic burdens for our residents.

Advanced Clean Cars II would work on all of those fronts by reducing fuel costs for drivers, lowering the upfront cost of zero-emission vehicles, and switching from fossil fuels to clean energy.

The most recent update to Maine’s Climate Action plan shows that there are more than three times as many electric vehicles on Maine roads than in 2020. Mainers are increasingly seeing the value of electric vehicles, and we need to make sure that manufacturers prioritize sending all available zero-emission vehicle models to our state to give drivers a full array of options that work best for them. Join me in supporting the adoption of Advanced Clean Cars II.
