CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Voters at Wednesday’s annual town meeting decided to apply for and accept a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant of about $80,000 to reconstruct the Homologated Nordic Ski Loop at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center and create a new 2.5-kilometer loop at the center.
Meeting at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center, residents also voted to spend up to $80,000 from the Recreation Endowment Fund to match the grant.
Voters authorized Carrabassett Valley Academy to construct and manage, at no cost to the town, a 6,000-square-foot fitness and training facility next to the 20,000-square-foot Anti-Gravity Complex.
The proposed $3.17 municipal spending plan for 2024 was approved, Town Clerk Wendy Russell said Thursday.
Town Manager Dave Cota said last week that the anticipated revenues of $718,900 leaves $2.4 million to be raised by taxpayers.
The municipal budget does not include the School Department or Franklin County’s assessment.
Voters approved spending up to $100,000 from undesignated surplus for flood-related damage and improvements. Town officials are considering taking some flood prevention precautions. The money would be used to improve the 6-mile Narrow Gauge Pathway to try to prevent flooding in the future. The nonmotorized trail along the Carrabassett River is very popular, Cota said last week.
Also accepted were zoning ordinance changes, including updating the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance and providing for contract zoning. This will provide flexibility for voters to consider a project that may not currently be allowed in a particular zone, Cota said.
All 32 warrant articles passed.
