BENTON — The Sebasticook Regional Land Trust continues its 2024 Speaker Series with a talk by Landis Hudson, executive director of Maine Rivers.

The talk is set for 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the Benton Grange on River Road.

Hudson will discuss improvements in the health of Maine’s rivers over the 50 years since the Clean Water Act was passed in 1972.

Dam removals and improved fish passageways, including the recent China Lake Alewife Restoration Initiative completed successfully with support from SRLT, have resulted in tremendous increases in sea-run fish populations and broad ecological benefits. According to Hudson, rivers ask people to take the long view, and she asks “how does the future look for the waters of Maine? How is our state different from others? What are some of the emerging threats to our waters? Can partnerships or technology address these?,” according to a news release from Cheryl Daigle, SRLT executive director.

People can bring ideas, opinions and questions to this update on Maine river health and ways to address continuing threats to our waterways.
