Herbert F. Oliver

WATERVILLE – Herbert Frank Oliver, 80, of Waterville, died on March 10, 2024, at Maine Medical Center, where he was surrounded by the love and devotion of family, following a courageous battle with cancer and kidney disease.

Born on Oct. 7, 1943, to Harley and Lucille (Colburn) Oliver, Herbert was raised in Farmington, Maine. He attended the Mallett School until the family moved to Phillips, Maine, where he graduated from Phillips High School in 1961. He continued his education at Farmington State Teachers College, graduating in 1965 with a BS in Education. He received his Master of Education in Administration from Plymouth State College in 1972. Herbert served as an elementary school principal in Gorham and Amherst, N.H., and Norridgewock. While at Farmington, he met the love of his life, Regina Littlefield, whom he married on Aug. 7, 1965. In 1969, Herbert and Regina welcomed their daughter Bethany into the world. In 1972 another daughter Megan was born, and in 1974 they welcomed their son Kyle.

While in New Hampshire, Herbert served as State Representative to the New Hampshire Association of School Principals for 6 years, and then President of the Association for two years. He was active in the Amherst Congregational Church serving as deacon and Sunday school teacher. Returning to Maine after his fatherā€™s death, he became active the in Waterville Congregational Church UCC, serving as Deacon and moderator for several years. He was involved at the Maine Conference UCC, where he served on the Community Life Commission for several years before being elected as moderator of the state for 3 years. He served on the Finance Committee for two terms. He was also a 50-plus year Mason with the Blue Mountain Lodge #67.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harley and Lucille, and his sister Linda Welch.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Regina, his daughter Bethany and her wife Denise of Winslow, Maine, his daughter Megan and her husband AsbjĆørn of Skivholme, Denmark, and son Kyle and his wife Nancy of Andover, Massachusetts. He loved his grandchildren, Emma and Mia Winther, and Zach and Ben Oliver. Herbert is also survived by his sisters, Evangeline Prescott and Betty Oliver

We would like to sincerely thank the doctors and team at the Dialysis Clinic in Fairfield, Yusef Abdi of Oakland Family Practice, and the doctors and staff at Maine General Hospital and the Maine Medical Center, who provided great care to Herbert as he faced challenging health issues.

There will be a memorial service and reception at the St. Markā€™s Episcopal Church, 60 Eustis Parkway, Waterville at 2 p.m. on June 29.
