RANGELEY — In an intersection of science and religion, the total eclipse of 2024 will occur on the Feast of the Annunciation, which commemorates the announcement by the angel Gabriel to Mary that she would bear God’s Son, Jesus, into the world.
To reflect these cosmic events, The Church of the Good Shepherd is set to host an evening service of poetry, prayer, and praise — La Corona – Vigil of the Eclipse — at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at 2614 Main St.
The Annunciation is usually celebrated on March 25 (exactly nine months before the Nativity), but this year that date would have placed it in the midst of Holy Week and Easter, according to a news release from Pamela Ellis with the church.
On the day of the eclipse — Monday, April 8 — from 8:30-10:30 a.m. will be held the Moonshadow Community Pancake Breakfast. It will be held in the undercroft of the church. Gluten-free pancakes will also be available.
The suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for those 12 and younger. Everyone is welcome and there will be space-related gifts for the kids. All proceeds will support the community work of Good Shepherd.
