AUGUSTA – Henry Napoleon Lerette Jr., 92, passed away at the Alfond Center for Health on March 23, 2024, following a brief illness. He was born in Hallowell on Dec. 24, 1931, to the late Henry Napoleon Sr. and Doris (Keezer) Lerette.
Henry attended middle school and part of high school in Bath, graduating from Cony High School in 1950. After graduation, Henry married his high school sweetheart, Janet Buck.
He began his career in the paper industry at Hudson Pulp & Paper.in Augusta. In 1967, Henry and family relocated to Wilton after he accepted a job in the quality lab at the Androscoggin Paper Mill in Jay where he worked until 1988.
In his free time, Henry enjoyed many sports and hobbies. As a young boy, he learned to bowl while setting pins at his uncle’s bowling alley. Henry was an avid golfer, honing his golf skills by caddying. He won the club championship at Western View Golf Course multiple times. Other passions included painting landscapes, chess, geocaching, and contract bridge.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Janet, his sister Eleanor (Aucoin) and brother John.
Henry leaves behind his daughter, Karen (Lerette) Bell of Exeter, NH; granddaughter Melissa (Gagnon) Emmons and husband Gregory of Manchester, Maine, granddaughter Erica (Gagnon) Hunter and husband Tom of Brentwood, NH, and granddaughter Kimberly (Gagnon) Steinhagen and husband John of Windham, Maine. He was also blessed with six great grandchildren, Hunter and Paige Emmons, Grace and Cole Hunter, and Mikayla and Lilah Steinhagen. Henry also leaves behind his dear sister Dolores (Lerette) Daggett; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Henry’s visitation will be on Monday April 1, from 1 – 2 p.m. with a service immediately following at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street Augusta.
