GARDINER — A home on Libby Hill Road suffered fire and heavy smoke damage after a fire broke out in the kitchen Friday afternoon.
Firefighters from Gardiner and Richmond responded to a report of a structure fire shortly before 3 p.m. Friday at 314 Libby Hill Road. The caller reported seeing smoke coming from the eaves of the single-story home.
Gardiner Fire Chief Rick Sieberg said the residents were not home at the time, but two dogs were killed.
“There was fire damage in the kitchen and heavy smoke throughout,” Sieberg said. “It’s not habitable right now.”
The fire appeared to start in the area of the coffee maker, Sieberg said.
The fire in the mobile home near the intersection of Libby Hill and Marston roads was knocked down in about 10 minutes once the fire crew was able to get inside, he said.
The residents declined assistance from the Red Cross, he said, and were staying with family in the area.
