Lorraine Pomerleau Doyon

AUGUSTA – Lorraine Pomerleau Doyon, 83, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at her home. She was born in Augusta on Sept. 29, 1940, the daughter of the late Beatrice V. (Pare) and Arthur T. Pomerleau, Sr.

She graduated from St. Augustine School in 1955 and Cony High School in 1959. She joined in marriage the love of her life, Valmont Doyon, on August 29, 1959. They were happily married for 43 years. Valmont died Nov. 14, 2002. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Lorraine was a secretary/bookkeeper at St. Augustine Parish for nine years. She served on the Parish Council, also on the Finance Committee. She was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. In 1983, she started a new career at the Augusta School Department in the Superintendent’s Office for 18 years, she made friends with many co-workers and staff. She was a Brownie & Girl Scout leader for a number of years at Gilbert School. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Cushnoc Senior Citizens also the Ladies of Ste. Anne Society.

After retirement, she started volunteering at Gilbert School for many years. The best time of the year for her was Christmas. She would dress as Mrs. Claus, go to each kindergarten class, bearing gifts for all the little ones, telling them stories about life with Santa, explaining to them about the reindeer dust that one must sprinkle around their homes so the reindeer would leave extra gifts for those girls and boys. She made sure that each child had a bag of reindeer dust. She loved to make fudge for her friends and loved ones, especially around the Holidays. For many years she had Christmas parties for the Doyon family. For the Pomerleau family, it was a tradition around Christmas for all the family to be together at her home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Valmont; her two brothers, Maurice and Arthur “Sonny” Pomerleau, Jr. and a sister, Joan Gregoire.

She is survived by her three children, Maurice Doyon and his wife Jennifer of Augusta, Michael Doyon and his wife Susan of Saco and Ann Marie Doyon Melancon and her husband Peter; two granddaughters, Emily Greene of Princeton, Mass. and Victoria Ann Goodrich of Augusta; a great granddaughter, Clara Greene; a sister, Beatrice Tondreau and husband Norman; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

At Lorraine’s request, there will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
