Normand L. Bernier

LITCHFIELD – Normand L. Bernier, 85, of Litchfield, died peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side, on Monday, March 25, 2024.

He was born in Auburn, on May 28, 1938, the son of George E. and Jeannette (Morin) Bernier.

Norman graduated from Edward Little High School (class of 1957) and enlisted in the Air Force shortly thereafter. In the Air Force, he learned plumbing and pipefitting, and worked on numerous bases during the Vietnam War. Upon leaving the Air Force, Normand worked for multiple plumbing companies before starting his own business, Norm’s Pneumatic Control Services.

Growing up on a farm and working in the woods, his love for both never faded; while working as a plumber, he raised beef cattle on his farm in Litchfield. Normand was also very active in the community as a school board member deeply involved in the planning and building of Oak Hill High School. He was an active member of the Litchfield Fair Association and an 18-year member of the American Legion Post 181, serving as an Honor Guard presiding at over 1,000 burials – sometimes five in one day!

Normand married his loving bride, Jeannine, on Nov. 22, 1959. They enjoyed nearly 65 years of beautiful marriage, until Jeannine’s passing on March 9, 2024.

Norman was predeceased by his parents; wife, Jeannine; son, Jean-Marc; brother, Paul Bernier; and sisters, Jeannette Bernier and Lilyette Cornish.

Normand is survived by his son Peter Bernier; daughter Michelle D’Entremont; granddaughter Elizabeth Morgan Bernier and great-grandson Cole; brothers, George R. (Pinkie) Bernier and Richard Bernier; and sisters, Rachel (Warren) Dolezal and Helena (Richard) Clifford.

Normand’s visiting hours will be held from 4-6 p.m., on Thursday, April 4, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Friday, April 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, School Street, Gardiner, with a celebration of life following at the American Legion Post #181 in Litchfield, Maine.
