Barbara C. Lord

HALLOWELL – Barbara C. Lord, 78, of Outer Central Street in Hallowell passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Barbara was born Sept. 15, 1945, in Gardiner, the second daughter to Laforest and Virginia (Robbins) Colfer.

In 1963, after graduating from Hall-Dale High School, Barbara married her high school sweetheart Duane (Bud) R. Lord. She was a stay-at-home mom and devoted farmer’s wife for many years. Though she held several different jobs once their daughters went to school, she is known to many as “Meme” from her years as the head cook for Hall-Dale Elementary School, where her grandchildren attended.

Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Barbie-Jo Lord and Michael Allen, Mischele Ellis, Wendy Lord-Buck, and Trevor Buck. Her grandchildren, Amber and Jake Stoddard, Brian Allen and Sara Rice, Bailey Ellis and Eric Burlock, Brandon Smith, Taylor Lockhart, Cole Lockhart, and great grandchildren, Brandon, Ashton, Parker, and Koda. Her two sisters, Linda Heald of Florida, and Theresa Baker of Farmingdale. Brothers-in-law Ronnie Lord of Augusta and Freeman (Anne) Lord of Hallowell, and sister-in-law Norma (Darryl) Brown of West Gardiner. As well as several nieces and nephews.

The family wants to give a special thank you to Elissa (Lisa) Roberts for going above and beyond. They would also like to recognize the doctors at FMI in Augusta and the palliative care nurses within the Comfort Care Unit at Glenridge. All of which gave Barbara exceptional care.

At her request, there will be no memorial services. We love you mostest, Meme.

Arrangements and guidance are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website, http://www.staplesfuneralhome.com.
