Joyce Arlene Douin

PITTSTON – Joyce Arlene Douin, 77, of Pittston, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Maine General Rehab and LTC at Glenridge in Augusta.

Born in Augusta, on March 31, 1947, the first of three children of Armand and Dorothy (Lapierre) Gilbert.

Joyce grew up in Augusta, graduated from St. Augustine Catholic School in 1961 and from Cony High School in 1965. For many years Joyce was a stay-at-home mom to her three children Karen, Michael, and Denise. In 1988 she resumed her education plan attending the University of Maine at Farmington where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She then began teaching first and second grade at Helen Thompson School in West Gardiner until her retirement in 2001. After retirement, Joyce and her husband Don volunteered at the Maine General Medical Center for over 15 years participating in numerous activities at the hospital. Joyce and her husband were also very involved in many programs at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gardiner. Her Catholic faith was always paramount throughout her life’s journey. A very humble and giving person, Joyce is now smiling in heaven and looking over each of us with tremendous love. “Gone but not forgotten.” Surely, she is looking forward to when we will share eternal life with her and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald Douin; three children, Karen Douin and companion Gene Hassen, son Michael Douin and companion Crystal Gagne, and Denise Kasrawi and husband Hadi; sister Pauline McGovern and husband Richard; brother Ronald Gilbert and companion Susan MacDonald; five grandchildren Katrina and spouse TJ St. Louis, Taylor and spouse Zac Chapman, Mckayla, Tariq, and Samir; two great grandchildren Annabelle and Ellie, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
