WATERVILLE — The nonprofit Friends of Quarry Road announced several leadership changes this week.
Hanna Bouchard of Waterville was elected president of the board; John Diefenderfer, of Hallowell, vice president; and Steve Kahl, of Waterville, secretary. Bob Barton, of Belgrade, remains treasurer.

Bouchard is currently the Community Health Outreach Coordinator at Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville, where she works on promoting community health and prevention throughout the hospital’s service area.

She has been on the Friends of Quarry Road’s board of directors since 2021 and previously served as secretary. She also serves on the board of directors for Healthy Northern Kennebec. Bouchard graduated from Colby College in 2021 with a major in psychology: neuroscience and minor in managerial economics. She also works for Delta Ambulance in Waterville in her spare time.

Two new volunteer board members were welcomed at a meeting of the Friends’ board in late March. Mike Duguay, executive director of the Harold Alfond Institute for Business Innovation, and Pat Cote, director of pharmacy services, Good Samaritan Society and an experienced Nordic competitive ski coach and event organizer.

Other board members include Ruth Jackson, Joe Reisert, Jeff Tucker, Arnout van der Meer, and Ellen Wells.

Waterville resident Jennifer W. Kierstead was appointed the organization’s first executive director since its inception in 2010. As a grant consultant, Kierstead has helped the all-volunteer Friends organization and the city raise over $2.7 million in grants from private foundations and government agencies to advance Quarry Road Trails’ infrastructure, programming and operations.

The Friends’ mission is to strengthen greater Waterville by developing exceptional opportunities for four-season outdoor recreation at Quarry Road Trails. The 225-acre venue is Waterville’s largest public park. Recreation activities include Nordic and Alpine skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, hiking, paddling, nature education, trail running and summer foot races.
