READFIELD — Owen Lyons scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Maranacook defeated Mt. Blue 12-11 in boys lacrosse action Tuesday.

Lyons finished with five goals and five assists for the Hawks (1-0), while teammates Jacob Lyons and Ethan Chilton had three apiece. Goalie Easton Howard made six saves.

Chase Ranger scored four goals for Mt. Blue (0-1), while Trey Bailey and Cam Ranger each had a hat trick. Brody Farmer stopped eight shots in goal.

 

CONY 13, TRAIP ACADEMY 9: Ray Pireer scored five goals as the Rams pulled away in the second half to defeat the Rangers for a season-opening win in Kittery.

Zack Waddell had four goals for Cony, and Bryce Watson, Josh Barrett, Tenny Tibbetts and Connor Gallagher added one goal each. Kanden Jones made 10 saves.

Brody Johnson led Traip with three goals and two assists. Asa Lane had three goals and an assist.

 

SOFTBALL

 

WINSLOW 14, WATERVILLE 3: Grace Melvin threw a no-hitter and batterymate Bella Loubier homered as the Black Raiders won their season opener in five innings in Winslow.

Melvin and Loubier each added a double, and Alyia Bourque had three hits for Winslow (1-0).

Madelyn Martin allowed five hits for Waterville (0-1).

 

LEAVITT 10, GARDINER 2: A three-run second inning and four-run fourth inning propelled the Hornets to a season-opener win in Turner.

Abby Albert pitched 3.66 innings for Leavitt (1-0) and Hailey Cyr pitched 3.23 innings, keeping Gardiner (0-1) to only four hits.

Sam Deblois hit a home run, and Kylee Spugnardi and Hailey Turcotte tripled for the Hornets.

Brynnlea Chaisson hit two singles for the Tigers.

BASEBALL

 

LEAVITT 9, GARDINER 1: A seven-run fifth inning helped the Hornets break open a one-run game, leading them to a season-opener victory in Turner.

Noah Carpenter hit two home runs in the fifth inning for Leavitt (1-0). Hornets catcher Luke Gladu added a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Colton Taylor pitched six scoreless innings for the Hornets, striking out seven and scattering five hits. Taylor also chipped in two hits, one a double.

Cam Madore tallied a double for the Tigers (0-1).

 

GIRLS LACROSSE

 

MT. BLUE 8, LINCOLN ACADEMY 7: Alaya Smith and Lily Huntly each scored two goals for the Cougars, leading them to a season-opening victory in Readfield

Alissa Butterfield, Chloe Roberts and Maya Kellett each scored a goal and chipped in an assist for Mt. Blue (1-0).

Celia Brinkler scored a game-high four goals for Lincoln (0-1). Evie Hutchins logged a 68% save rate for the Cougars, while Ciara Stokes was saved at a 57% clip for the Eagles.
