Friends of the Rumford Public Library will host “One-in-a-Million Boy” and “When We Were the Kennedys” author Monica Wood for a reading at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8. Because the
Public Room at Rumford Public Library is temporarily closed, the event will be held at the American Legion located at 184 Congress St., Rumford. A reception will follow the talk.

Born and raised in Mexico, Maine, Wood is a novelist, memoirist, and playwright; the 2019 recipient of the Maine Humanities Council Carlson Prize for contributions to the public humanities; and a recipient of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance Distinguished Achievement Award for contributions to the literary arts.

Wood’s latest novel, “How to Read a Book,” will be released on May 7. She lives in Portland with her husband, Dan Abbott, and their cat, Susie.

The event is free and open to the public, however, donations to the Friends will be accepted.

The Friends is a nonprofit organization whose members have a vested interest in the library. Proceeds from this event, the annual book sale, along with other funds the group raises, support the library by funding unbudgeted programs, such as the Community Pass to the Maine Wildlife Park.
