Marie P. Fortin

SKOWHEGAN – Marie P. Fortin, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on April 11, 2024. Marie was born on Nov. 12, 1937, in Saint-Gédéon, PQ, Canada. In 1957 she married Jean Paul Fortin and moved to Skowhegan, where they would start their family and careers.

Marie spent a great amount of time working as a waitress at The Village Candlelight and eventually retired, at the age of 72, from Ken’s Restaurant in Skowhegan. Marie met many friends in this environment and would be remembered as the “French speaking waitress.” Marie was a social butterfly and was not uncommon for her to meet new friends on a simple trip to the store. If you knew Marie, you most likely enjoyed a chat and a laugh in every encounter with her. Marie will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years Jean Paul Fortin; daughter Joan Burnham, son-in-law Wayne; and grandson Jason.

Marie is survived by her children Steve Fortin with his wife Penny, Mona Fortier, Mark Fortin, and Michelle Fortin; grandchildren Randi Voisine, Jillian Roy, and Whitney Davis; great-grandchildren Miriah, Benjamin, Trenton, Elliot, Sawyer, Silas, and Sullivan; and great-great-grandchildren Ashton, Joziah, and Hayden.

Funeral and graveside services to be announced.

Our family would like to give a special thank you to Northern Light Hospice nurse Ericka, for not only taking care of Marie but our entire family during this difficult time.
