Rachel R. (Dostie) Violette

AUGUSTA – Rachel R. (Dostie) Violette, 95, of Old Belgrade Road, passed peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care at Glenridge in Augusta.

Rachel was born in Augusta on Dec. 3, 1928, the daughter of Alonzo and Ida (Therriault) Dostie. She attended Augusta schools and was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She worked at Bates Manufacturing and retired from The State of Maine.

Rachel and Richard were avid snowmobilers and members of the Capital Sportsman’s Club, Trailblazers Snowmobile Club and the Calumet Snowmobile Club in Augusta, and the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club. She was the oldest member of the WETSU ladies’ group and loved their annual rafting and canoeing trips. Rachel got her motorcycle license when she was 50 and loved riding to Rangeley with Priscilla and Lillian. She and Richard ran Capital City Golf for about 10 years where they made many lifelong friends. After Richard passed away in 2013, Rachel spent time helping Randy at his business in Belgrade.

Rachel was predeceased by her husband, Richard Violette; her granddaughter, Paige Sawtelle; her parents; four brothers, Robert, Lawrence, Raymond and Gabriel Dostie, two sisters, Joan Vachon and Pauline Gauthier, both of Lewiston.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Sawtelle of Hollis, her son, Randy Violette of Belgrade; her grandchildren, Logan, Mason and Alyson Violette; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no public services. We sincerely thank all the staff at Glenridge. Their care and compassion for each resident is amazing.
