In the beginning was God, and God was love. More vast and complex than our minds can imagine. It was good, but God was alone, and Love wished to know others and to be known. And so God created the principles of physics, mathematics, and chemistry, and Love ignited the Big Bang. Stars and nebulas burst out in all directions, and it was good.

But the universe still played to an empty house, and so Love created biology. God decreed that all life shall have free will. The fish, plants, and land animals were beautiful but they were not fully aware. They could not know God.

So Love created consciousness. The brains of certain sea mammals and primates grew in size, and people began to worship God. Now, God had companions, and the universe had an appreciative audience.

But the people grew in number until they needed government, and they did not learn to govern themselves wisely. The desire to acquire and hoard outcompeted the desire to live with love and fairness. People discovered cheap sources of energy, fossil fuels enabled them to amass great wealth. Others became rich through manufacturing and dumping waste products into the water and air. This damaged God’s creation.

Love decided that people needed understanding to balance their greed. Those who saw the need for love and conserving God’s planet were charged with teaching this message. And they were resisted mightily at those who sought to hoard wealth.

And so Love has given us the gift of purpose; a challenge to make ourselves worthy companions and stewards for the earth and our children.
