Lawrence “Larry” Arthur Bickford

BELGRADE – Lawrence “Larry” Arthur Bickford, 84, of Belgrade died Saturday April 27, 2024, at MaineGeneral in Augusta.

He was born in Oakland to Harry and Velma (Thomas) Bickford on Sept. 7, 1939, and attended Oakland Schools.

He worked in various places doing construction, but the last 25 years of his working career were spent in maintenance in the Augusta School System. During his time in the school system, he made many friends and quickly became someone that people counted on to keep things going within the school buildings.

Along with his wife Christine, he enjoyed attending the fair to watch horse pulling, attending family gatherings and they could often be found sitting on their swing in the backyard.

In his free time, Larry spent many hours outside of his home whether it being building gardens, hanging bird feeders, or mowing his lawn, it was always perfect. He loved to build various things in his wood shop and found joy in mounting deer horns for those he loved. He enjoyed deer hunting with the guys and could always be found on a Saturday morning in his orange ready to go. He was proud of his home and the life that he had built, and he will be missed by so many that loved him.

He was predeceased by his parents; six brothers, Blynn, Thomas, Garey, Kenneth, and John; an infant; four sisters, Berlene, Annie, Lenora and Thelma; and granddaughter, Matia.

He leaves behind his wife, Christine (Clement) Bickford of more than 50 years; and their children, Kevin (Nellie) Bickford, Marilyn Redlevske, Oscar (Sue) Redlevske; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leatrice (Roger) Grevois and Charlene (Paul) Houle; and many nieces, nephews; and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at Lewis Cemetery in Oakland on Saturday May 11 at 10 a.m.
