Eleanor Lucile Weeks-Hardcastle

BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Eleanor Lucile Weeks-Hardcastle, formerly Eleanor Plummer and Eleanor Rackley, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, surrounded by her daughter and son after a long and happy life.

Eleanor was born on Thursday, July 8, 1937, in Augusta to Charles E. Weeks, Sr. and Clara Averill Weeks. Eleanor grew up in Manchester and attended school in Manchester and graduated from Cony High School, class of 1955.

Eleanor and her first husband, David, along with their children, lived in Whitefield for almost 25 years. In 1984, Eleanor moved back to Manchester and built a home with her second husband, Steve, on her family’s property on the Kerns Hill Road.

Eleanor was employed by Whitefield Elementary School for several years while her son attended school there. Eventually, Eleanor started her state government career at the Department of Education and retired from the Department of Audit as its Business Manager in 1999 after 32 years of state service.

Eleanor enjoyed traveling, especially to escape Maine’s winters going to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for many years with her friends Gladys, Linda, Arline and Joe, spending time with her family and dear friends, camping around Maine, doing cross stitch and crochet creating beautiful pieces for her loved ones, and just plain enjoying whatever the day brought. Eleanor had a great love of cats and sorely missed Puff, Dustin, Charlie and Lilly.

After spending parts of many winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Eleanor and her husband Jay moved there full time. Eleanor and Jay made many close friends during the 14 years spent there and enjoyed all that the area provided including good places to eat and top-notch entertainment.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Jean Poulin and her husband Tim (Eleanor’s favorite son-in-law) of Sidney, her son, Alan David Plummer of Litchfield and his Lady Nicole Chittick of Portland; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved and adored – granddaughter, Brittany Bourgeois-Munzing and her husband Nate of Hallowell, granddaughter, Aleena Beth Plummer of Austin, Texas, grandson, Zachary Alan Plummer of Portland; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Munzing and great-grandson Theodore Munzing both of Hallowell. Eleanor is also survived by her two closest and dearest childhood and lifelong friends, Gladys Keene of Manchester and Virginia Ayer of St. Augustine, Fla.

Eleanor was predeceased by her parents; infant brother, Ralph L. Weeks, brother, Charles E. Weeks., Jr.; and her children’s father, David E. Plummer; and the husband that she spent her last 20 years with, Jay E. Hardcastle.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Manchester Community Church later in the spring with a date and time to be announced, followed by internment at the Manchester Forks Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Eleanor’s caregivers over the last several years from Above and Beyond Care Services, St. Andrews Village – Gregory Wing, and Beacon Hospice for the loving care of our mother. Your kindness to her will forever be on our hearts.
