NEW PORTLAND — The Office of State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire Sunday that destroyed a vacant house in New Portland, officials said.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, firefighters from New Portland were sent to a fire at 15 Taylor’s Pit Road.

Chief Kip Poulin of the New Portland Fire Department did not return a call Monday seeking information.

Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said the Office of State Fire Marshal was contacted and an investigator responded to the scene.

The Anson Fire Department, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Northstar Ambulance also responded to the fire.
