WATERVILLE — For the second time in five days, a water main break has been reported on Kennedy Memorial Drive.

Officials from the Kennebec Water District say they shut down water around 1 p.m. Tuesday following the break at the entrance to the Shaw’s Plaza at 251 Kennedy Memorial Drive.

As part of the repair work done following Friday’s break, water district staff installed an additional valve, so the area affected by the shutdown was expected to be much smaller, including businesses on both sides of Kennedy Memorial Drive from the Shaw’s Plaza west to the Irving gas station at the top of the hill.

The earlier break halted service to about 60 customers.

Water district officials said other customers affected by Friday’s interruption were expected to have water service but would experience lower water pressure.

“We apologize for this service disruption, especially because it occurs only days after the last main break,” water district officials said via a Facebook post, noting that updates would be posted on its Facebook page.
