Camilla J. Giguere

WATERVILLE – Camilla J. Giguere passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Maine General Hospital in Augusta on Monday May 6, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Camilla was born on March 30, 1937 in Fairfield and was the last surviving child of Fred and Laura (Ackley) Dyer.

Camilla was a graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1954 and she received a nursing degree from Mercy Hospital in Portland Maine.

Camilla and Claude were married on June 4, 1960 and took up residence in Waterville. They were blessed with six children. Camilla was a doting mom and the glue that kept the family together these past 64 years.

Camilla loved planning and going to family events through out the years. Camilla and Claude, along with their children, spent many summers at their camp on Great Pond and loved to travel during the winter months. She enjoyed shopping with her friends, scratch tickets and playing cards with her grandchildren or with anyone who wanted to play a game of cribbage. She didn’t seem to know how to count the points in a cribbage game but surprisingly won many of them much to the frustration of anyone who played with her.

After the birth of their last (wonderful) child, Camilla decided to reenter the medical field as a Surgical Nurse at Maine General. She loved her job and met many new friends during her career. She retired in 1999.

Camilla was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Beverly Purtell, Mary Hunter and Linda Dyer and brothers Fred and Dickie Dyer.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Claude Giguere; her children Stephen (Pamela) Giguere of Dover, N.H., Catherine (Thomas) Suttie of Waterville, Michael Giguere and his long time partner, Annelyse, of Wakefield, Mass., Jeanne Giguere and her long time partner, Josh, of Albion, David Giguere of Brooks, Tony Giguere and his fiancé, Taryn, of Topsham. She also had several grandchildren, Jesse and Cody Pomeroy, Tom (Emeline) Suttie, Lauren (Nick) Lewis, Abby Giguere, and Belle and Jeremy Giguere; and several great-grandchildren. Camilla is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she remained in contact with over the years. Camilla also had several BFFs and they must be recognized, Carole Boardman, Carol Bessie, Gloria George, Pauline Rogers and Shirley Bennett, many of whom she maintained daily contact with. In addition to these, she was survived by Claude’s brother, Leopold, sister, Annette and sisters-in-law Rolande and Jeanne Giguere. She also leaves her beloved, and slightly overweight cat, Buddy, and the entire squirrel community on Preston Street. Camilla was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of her beloved sister-in-law, Joanne Veilleux, just a week prior to her own passing.

There will be a mass of Christian Burial at Notre Dame Church on May 14 at 9 a.m. There will be a wake at Veilleux Funeral home in Waterville on May 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Arrangements are in the care of Veilleux and Redington Funeral Home, 8 Elm St,, Waterville, where condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at http://www.veilleuxfuneralhome.com.
