Douglas Thorpe

PORT St. LUCIE, Fla. – It is with a very heavy heart that I report the passing of my husband Douglas Thorpe. He passed away on Jan. 11, 2024 at the Port St. Lucie emergency room. His fight has ended, he is at peace now.

Doug was born in Bath to Douglas K. Thorpe Sr. and Marie (Green) Thorpe on Feb. 24, 1928. He attended Fairfield Schools, was a huge bulldog fan and graduated from Coburn Classical Institute.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. He later attended Thomas College, after getting his degree he started Somerset Home Supply. He made many lifelong friends and maintained the friendships until he passed. He was truly a blessing to hardworking people. To all who knew him, respected him, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are all very special people and you know who you are. I will not mention names, as I do not want to exclude anyone, just know how very much you meant to him.

Doug was predeceased by his mom and dad, sisters, Dorothy Brown, Evelyn Taylor, Millicent Sharpe.

He is survived by his wife Linda (Berube) Thorpe, sister Gloria Bangs, nephews Rick, Mark and Randy Bangs. This man asked me to dance and we loved, lived, and danced for nearly 56 years.

When it is my time, he will take my hand and we will dance again. My heart went with you so hold me very close. I love you now and forever.

There will be a celebration of his life at some point in August. I will post it in the Sentinel, as to time, date, and place.
