The Whitefield Historical Society is set to present “Civil War Letters from a Whitefield Soldier” on Monday, May 27. This is the story of letters written by Abraham Hatch Preble to his wife Eglantine.

As Mr. Preble settled into his duties as a Civil War soldier in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mrs. Preble was managing the family farm in Whitefield, caring for their children and expecting another.

Attendees can follow Abraham Preble’s wartime correspondence with his wife at this Memorial Day program. The public will gather for opening ceremonies at 10:00  a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial, 36 Townhouse Road, and move to the Whitefield Fire Station for the program.

For more information call the society’s Sue McKeen at 207-446-7473.
