FAIRFIELD — Two men were injured Thursday afternoon when a garbage truck hit a Jeep and flipped onto its side on Norridgewock Road in Fairfield, officials said.

Timothy Bailey, 38, of Knox was driving the garbage truck at about 3 p.m. on Center Road when he failed to stop at the intersection with Norridgewock Road, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

When Bailey drove through the intersection, he ran into a Jeep Gladiator driven by Richard Parker, 79, of New Portland, police said. The garbage truck then flipped onto its side, landing partially on the Jeep.

Bailey and Parker were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Center for Health in Waterville, where they were listed in stable condition Thursday evening, according to Fairfield police.

Bailey was driving a 2007 International garbage truck owned by Bolster’s Rubbish Removal of Burnham.

The Maine State Police Commercial Enforcement Unit was investigating the crash, along with a state police accident reconstruction team.

The Fairfield Police and Fairfield and Benton Fire-Rescue Department responded to the crash, as did the Waterville Police Department, Oakland Police Department and Maine Department of Transportation.

Traffic was “severely impacted” following the crash, the Fairfield and Benton Fire-Rescue Department said on social media.
