Irene Mary (Fogg) Wadleigh

MOUNT VERNON – Irene Mary (Fogg) Wadleigh, 86, of Mount Vernon, on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 7:33 p.m. after a brief illness due to Pancreatic Cancer made the journey to that undiscovered country from who’s bourn no traveler returns to be with her family, her Lord and Savior. Irene was born on Sept. 20, 1937, daughter of Harriet Stiles Fogg and Otho Fogg of Readfield.

Irene graduated from Kents Hill High School and attended a Beautician School in Lewiston and worked as a hairdresser in Skowhegan until her marriage.

Sept. 22, 1963, she married Charles E. Wadleigh of Belgrade. In 1964 gave birth to Ernest C. Wadleigh, 1966 to Sandra Wadleigh Cyr Bean, 1968 to Bonnie Wadleigh Gasper, and 1970 to Mary Wadleigh Howard.

Irene was organist at the Mount Vernon Baptist for over 40 years. She also served a number of years as leader of the Children Sunday School. She was very involved with the Rainbow Girls International as she had two daughters who went through Rainbow. She was an Eastern Star member for 54 years. She served as Worthy Matron of Vernon Valley Chapter # 68 for 15 years. Secretary for 15 years and served nine years as organist. She served the Grand Chapter of Maine Eastern Star as Grand Chaplain, two different years as Grand Organist. two different times as District Deputy Grand Matron and two different years as Grand Representative.

Irene had an amazing talent for music as she could play any instrument with a keyboard and knew how to play by ear as well as to read music. She loved to go to nursing homes to play and sing music for the residents. She could sing or play almost any song that a person would request.

Irene was an avid sports fan with the Boston Celtics being her most favorite team with the Boston Red Sox at number two and became a fan of the New England Patriots.

Irene was very involved in outdoor nature. She raised all kinds of flowers and knew the names of a vast number of birds. She loved being down in Belgrade on the stream and in the woods.

Irene was predeceased first by her brother, Douglas who died at the age of 15; her father, Otho Fogg; her sister, Rachael Bryant; and her mother, Harriet Stiles Fogg Ham who lived to 102 years old.

Irene has nine grandchildren, Brandi Cyr Leighton, Nicole Cyr Eastman, Morgan Wadleigh, Melanie Wadleigh Desjardins, Brett Howard, Derek Howard, Lucas Howard, Katie Gasper, and Wesley Gasper. She has four great-grandchildren, Harper Leighton, Clyde Leighton, Elaina Eastman and Nolan Eastman; in-laws left behind, Lynn Weeman Wadleigh, Lonnie Bean and Jonathan Gasper; and her adopted son, Bruce Alan Dunn.

Irene leaves behind many relatives, friends and a church family.  

Irene’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 23 from 1-3:30 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
